Alpha Primary Continued

This morning at assembly we heard that one of the classroom buildings at Alpha Primary was burned down over the weekend. This is obviously devastating to a school that already has no resources. Everything inside the five classrooms is destroyed and the children had to be sent home because it is not safe to be near the building. Just thought I should update after all my rambling about it in the first place.

  1. Hi Michelle - what a fantastic experience you are having! You mentioned Alpha is a township school. Who funds it?

  2. The government funds it... kind of. It's a lot harder for township schools to get their hands on money because the people who attend have less money and are thus a lesser government priority. Additionally, more elite public schools have a lot of expensive school fees. Township schools do not because their students can't afford it and since education is compulsory, all children must be able to attend school, even those who cannot afford the fees. Collegiate has been giving the school some funds in different forms to supplement the minimal amount they get from the government. The girls have done fundraisers in the name of Alpha Primary to get them things like paint for their exterior walls.
